About:

Kedai Makan, a Malaysian food stand, was started in 2012 by Kevin Burzell and partner Alysson Wilson. The inspiration for Kedai Makan began with a trip through Southeast Asia, where Burzell decided that Malaysian food would be the cuisine he wanted to bring to Seattle.Kevin and Alysson operated Kedai Makan out of the Broadway, Virginia Mason, and Columbia City Farmers Markets before opening its their permanent location on E. Olive Way in January 2013.  The two returned to Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar to learn about regional dishes, which they feature on their regular menu offerings and seasonal specials seven days at week, 4pm to 11pm, at their food stand in Capitol Hill. They offer a limited late night menu on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00pm to 2am.

What Are Locals Saying?

This place is a hidden gem! I went in with my boyfriend and ordered the roti canai and the black rice pudding. Staff was very friendly and attentive and the food came out very fast!

As for the food, it was amazing. I’ve never had Malaysian flatbread, but now I never want to eat anything else. It has a pleasant slightly burnt taste reminiscent of naan cooked in a tandoor, and the mix of flaky and crisp and chewy is wonderful. I found myself eating the crumbs of the flatbread like cereal in the curry–which was also delicious and perfectly spicy. I did not eat any of the rice pudding but the boyfriend assures me it was great!

All in all an awesome food experience. I really appreciate food that is presented in an authentic way, free of gimmicky ‘fusion’ qualities to make it more palatable to the crowd that is afraid of venturing outside American foods, and undiluted delicious food is what you will find here! The commute from my house to this place is long (I live in Federal Way) but I am already wanting to hop on a bus and try everything else on the menu! Review Via John M.
