We’re Famous – The Lyric Stars In Microsoft Video!

We recently had some fun visitors at The Lyric. Microsoft came to use our beautiful vicinity as a backdrop in their new video series.

The videos focused on new devices and the features of Windows 8.  Microsoft Production Studios wanted to shoot the videos in a contemporary urban setting.  The team scouted a number of locations and decided that The Lyric was the perfect spot.  They fell in love with the resident Sky Lounge and spent two days shooting the video series there.  The videos will be used internally and for Microsoft clients.

Here is a fun shot from the day!

Did you see the team shooting? Did you make a cameo in the video? ;D

Cintli Latin Folklore

If you have walked down Broadway recently, you may have walked right on by this new little gem. Cintli Latin Folklore just moved into the Capitol Hill neighborhood recently and we are so glad they did.

Why?

Delicious food, decadent beverages, and rich desserts. And we’re just getting started! The food and beverages are just one reason to love Cintli Latin Folklore. The store is decked out in everything Folklore and painted in rich, bold colors. Just take a look!

Not only is the location beautifully decorated with jewelry and home decor to purchase, but the shop has a wide variety of tasty menu items. The food is all Latin-American inspired and we can’t recommend it enough!

Location:
202 Broadway East
(between Olive Way & Thomas St)
Seattle, WA 98102

What are locals saying?

“Cintli adds some great cultural flavor to the Broadway neighborhood.  Painted vibrantly on the outside and inside, they are a coffee/tea shop with Latin American art for sale.  Or they are a Latin-American themed art and gift shop with a full service espresso bar inside. Either way, Mexican “dia de los muertos” decor is all over the place, so if you want a decorative cross or cartoonish skull, this is the place to go.

The interior is super bright and cheerful, as are the employees.  There is a lot of merchandise in the store: on and around the tables, on the walls, hanging from the ceilings, etc.  I’ll be back often for coffee I think, because the atmosphere and art is so much different than anything else in this part of Capitol Hill.” via Chris M. on Yelp.

Have you stopped by? Cintli Latin Folklore is just a 5 minute walk from The Lyric! What did you think?

It’s A Sunny Capitol Hill Day!

Talking a walk up the hill!

Quick – look outside!

It’s a gorgeous day on Capitol Hill. The sun is out. The birds are chirping. Spring is surely in the air.

We love living on Capitol Hill for the variety of outdoor activities available. (and many within walking distance from The Lyric!)

What are your plans for today?

If you’re looking for something to do, here is where you will find us on this beautiful Monday.

1.) Having a picnic at Volunteer Park

Bike riding is fun too!

We are so lucky to have a beautiful park in our backyard. When the sun is out, we love picnics, reading in the grass, and jogging through Capitol Hill greenery.

2.) Grabbing some iced coffee from our neighbors

The perfect spot for a sunny day!

After a long winter, the sun is shining. Finally! This can only mean one thing – delicious iced beverages. From a cool iced latte to a sweet iced tea, you will find a variety of great options on Capitol Hill. We recommend checking out our friends at Vivace. They are right across the street and are mighty tasty! Did we mention they have outdoor seating? :)

3.) Enjoying an outdoor deck and some tasty grub

Our neighbors at Chico Madrid – they just opened!

Our neighbors are ready for the sun. Not only are they serving up some great food, but also are serving it on decks and patios. Don’t feel like leaving home today? No problem – come on up to our own rooftop deck for even more breathtaking views!

What are you doing in the sun today?

Poppy – A Hop, Skip, & A Jump From The Lyric

If you are in the mood for a great meal, we have just the thing: Poppy. Poppy is located within close proximity to The Lyric and has a delicious menu that you will soon be drooling over.

We recommend heading over for their happy hour that includes great prices and great bites to eat!

Photo Via PoppySeattle.com

Jerry traunfeld’s capitol hill restaurant brings a new style of dining to the northwest. jerry’s inspiration comes from the “thali,” a platter served to each guest holding a variety of small dishes. poppy’s menu borrows the idea of the thali to present jerry’s own style of northwest cooking, highlighting seasonal ingredients, fresh herbs, and spices. it’s a modern northwest tasting menu served all at once.

We love Poppy for it’s fresh ingredients and rich spices.

What are locals saying?

This review leans heavily on the phenomenal service we received at Poppy during their late night HH – it needs to be flaunted!

As we arrived for the late night happy hour, the server in the bar graciously led us to a table, and appeared genuinely happy to help us out. Even to the point of splitting a glass of wine for us, at his suggestion! I cannot say how pleased I was.

Poppy’s early happy hour is 5-7 p.m. and late night from 9 to 11 p.m. The early happy hour features the $5 awesome thali; late night has $6 “naanwiches.” So we tried the naan-wiches, of course!

One chicken, with a spicy rub and yogurt sauce – definitely my favorite due to the nod to cayenne. The meat in the steak naan-wich was cooked so perfectly as to melt in your mouth, but the dijon mustard sauce was a bit too strong for me that night. We also ordered the chickpea salad, which was rife with fresh herbs that made each bit sing with summer flavors. The HH Chardonnay was a good complement to our meal, just enough acidity to add some sparkle. via Sandra S on Yelp

I cannot wait to come back for the early HH thali…

Guilt Free Goodness – Gluten Free on Capitol Hill

One of the best parts about living on Capitol Hill is your accessibility to foods for all kinds of diets and lifestyles. Whether you have a dietary restriction, or are following a new routine, you will find what you are looking for on Capitol Hill.

Photo Via CapitolHillSeattle.com

One of Capitol Hill’s newest additions is Guilt Free Goodness, a new gluten free bakery that offers goodies for those with gluten intolerance or celiac disease. (Or those who want to try a tasty guilt free goodie!)

Guilt Free Goodness will provide high quality, healthy, and gluten free products to serve those with dietary gluten issues.

Guilt Free Goodness was established to provide “good tasting” gluten free products. People with gluten allergies often settled for lower quality tasting products because they were the only option. Not anymore; Guilt Free Goodness has arrived!

We think this is a great addition to the neighborhood and welcome Guilt Free Goodness to the Capitol Hill family!

Welcome To The Neighborhood Chico Madrid!

Screen Shot 2013-04-01 at 2.42.07 PMCapitol Hill is welcoming an exciting new restaurant to the neighborhood: Chico Madrid. Chico Madrid brings a little bit of Spain to Seattle. From bocadillos (sandwiches) to a classic Spain like bar and cafe, Chicos is adding European flair to Capitol Hill.

Photo Via Capitol Hill Blog

Time to drop everything and head on over for some Spanish tortilla and sangria!

Chico Madrid, created by partners Jacob Daley and Franz Gilbertson of Ballard’s Honore Bakery and espresso-powered by Capitol Hill caffeine and pie slinger Dani Cone, has plans to open — *probably* Friday morning — in its 800 and change square-foot retail space in the newly re-opened Belroy Apartments at, yes, Bellevue and Roy.Capitol Hill Blog

What are locals saying already?

I was here on the second day of its opening and already can see that it will be one of my favorite places.  Its located on Bellevue Ave, so its nice to have a cool spot to go to where I don’t have to walk up the hill to Broadway or up Olive.  I was given a great first impression when my husband and I were taking our son for a walk in his stroller and we were checking out the menu on the window.  I’m assuming it was the owner, or manager, but we had someone come out and greet us and talk about the place.  He was very welcoming and didn’t act snobby when he saw we had a baby in a stroller like a lot of pretentious places do!   We sat down for lunch and some wine (love the Lucky Red!).  The food was very good.  I had an Anchoas and the ingrediants tasted very fresh and it was also really pretty (I was really hungry so didn’t stop to take a picture of it) I also enjoyed the ambiance.  The music was cool but not obnoxiously loud or over powering so you can still carry on a conversation, and it was a nice day out side so they had the doors open.  I hope more places like this pop up on the north end of Bellevue Ave.  I will definitely be going back.” Lisa R. on Yelp

The distillery is renowned on Capitol Hill for its decadent, classic beverages. Sun Liquor offers a plethora of tasty concoctions and offer something to please any pallet.

Not only does Sun Liquor serve up a mean drink, but they also make their own delicious gin and vodka in house.

What are locals saying?

Sun Liquor is seriously the home of the best in-house made vodka, and the absolute very best handcrafted cocktails… with fresh squeezed juice mind you. And the fresh squeezed isn’t just a marketing tactic, they squeeze it fresh at the bar! WOW.

Their “famous” for their Mai Thai, and while it is delicious, I usually stray and go for the Seasonal Buck. It’s mouth-watering citrus goodness.

I say try:
1. Seasonal Buck
2. Satan’s Whiskers
3. Mai Thai

OH, and how could I forget, THEY HAVE FOOD TOO!
You can’t go wrong with their blue cheese and bacon burger, or their BLT!

You can also buy bottles of their liquor to take home too!

Jamjuree Thai Cuisine – Thai Food on Capitol Hill

Looking to shake up your weekly dinner plans? Then head on over to Jamjuree Thai Cuisine located on 15th Ave E.

Jamjuree first came into being as a small restaurant in the heart of Thailand –Bangkok. The founding three sisters and a brother shared their love of cooking with other family members, and some of them brought their culinary knowledge to Seattle and opened Jamjuree as you know it. Here at Jamjuree, you’ll enjoy simple but delicuous food–dishes that are neither too traditional nor too ‘nouvelle’– just great Thai home cooking. – Jamjuree.

Jamjuree Thai Cuisine is a Capitol Hill favorite serving up a mean Phad Tai, a decadent Thai iced tea, and a variety of other delectable plates to please any pallet. We recommend the Yellow Curry. Mmm! We’re getting hungry just writing about it!

Awesome food… I go there for the lunch special almost everyday. Best thai food in Seattle without a doubt! via Chau P. on Yelp

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this hidden gem recently and I am SO happy that we did! I really loved the dishes we had, special chicken and pad ki mao, and the portion sizes were perfect! Pad Ki Mao is one of my favorite Thai dishes and Jamjuree did not disappoint. The atmosphere is cute too. It would be great to take family or a date here. And, $20 for two and some leftovers to take home…not too shabby at all! I can’t wait to go back to Jamjuree in the near future! Juliane W. on Yelp
